So, back when the big "P' hit in 2019/2020, we realized that grocery stores may no longer be an option at some point in the future. We saw what you all saw. Bare shelves. And it was truly eye opening as to how fragile our system could be.
That whole thing was a daunting, anxiety riddled time that will probably haunt us all to some extent or other for the rest of our lives.
Having already moved out to the farm, we were prepared in many ways, but we realized that we would not have a source for butter or cheese.
We didn't drink cow milk. We hadn't in years because
our eldest child would get sinus infections the day after drinking a glass of it. However, we still ate butter and cheese, and neither of these seemed to adversely effect him.
So, along came Ms. Lucy. A Jersey Cow who had never been handmilked in her life. Haha! Fun! (just kidding, it was a butt kicking to train her)
It took a good bit, but I eventually trained her, and to this day, she is still happy to be handmilked as she munches on her treats.
Up until this point in time, I had never drank Raw Milk, EVER. And to be 100% honest with you, I was terrified of it. Regardless, by this time, we had enough experience with so many things being the opposite of what we believed, that we did what we have spent so many years doing, we began researching Raw Milk.
We were astonished. It was just like everything else. We had been so terribly misled our entire lives to fear something that had so many benefits!
We slowly introduced our eldest child to it, to see if he could tolerate it, since he had never tolerated store bought milk. Let's just put it this way, he now easily drinks half a gallon of it every single day and is very healthy. He hasn't had a single sinus infection in many years.
I'm not the only parent with this exact same story. Many parents with dairy intolerant children have told me that Raw Milk is the only cow milk their babies can drink.
Once we got the whole "Raw Milk is good for me, the butter is AMAZING, the cheese is mouthwatering," realization down pat, we began learning that it wasn't just great for our insides.
It's also packed with an awful lot of goodness that makes your skin feel silky smooth.
I noticed that my hands would feel amazing after milking. I had even taken some baths with raw milk that was too old to drink, but made for an excellent soak. I will say this. If you ever get a chance to take a bath with a gallon of raw milk added to it, DO IT! You will step out of that tub with the silkiest, softest skin.
I wanted to know what else I could do with this milk that benefited our skin. Especially since finding a truly good soap was pretty ridiculous.
So, I researched to see if I could turn Raw Milk into a soap. However, I wanted to preserve it's nutrient dense properties. I knew I could only do that by keeping it cold. That's when I found out about the Cold Processing Method.
Cold Processing doesn't just help the soap to retain the beneficial vitamins and nutrients of the Raw Milk. After all, you don't want to burn off all the carotenoids and omega-3 fatty acids that Raw Milk contains. All of these help make your skin beautiful by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.
The Cold Processing Method also helps to preserve all the Cold Pressed oils that I use.
Heat kills many vitamins and nutrients, leaving these products in a state that is just a shell of what they were in their glory days.
For me, Cold Processing has been the only option. After all, what I put on the largest organ of our bodies, is just as important as what goes inside of our bodies.
No, it doesn't begin to stink. I have kept bars for over a year, and they never began to smell like rotten milk. They still smell like the wonderful essential oils.
