Faux Natural Detergents
Picture this....
You are making your grocery run.
You are scanning the aisle for laundry detergent.
You REALLY want to get away from the toxic nonsense that has been irritating your skin.
There are 5 other people in the aisle, just wanting to get out of dodge and they REALLY don't want to wait for you to make up your mind.
You can practically hear them say, "Get what you need and MOVE already!" Some might actually have the gall to say it out loud!
That's when you see this bright white bottle from a brand you trust and it says all the right stuff in big bold letters, right there, front and center. Grab it and go!
I have a friend that invested her money into a brand name detergent that fits this description perfectly.
Like many of you, she has a skin issue and wanted something free from chemicals to wash her clothes in.
After all, she saw what all of you see....The front of the bottle touted that it is recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, & Pediatricians. It must be good, right?
Um... unfortunately, that was wrong.
She proceeded to send me pictures of the bottle, front and back.
I researched all of the ingredients listed on the back of the bottle. I'll tell you this, they really don't want you doing that. So, in order to 'appear helpful', they go ahead and give you a quick summary, showing you the purpose of each of these ingredients... Sneaky, sneaky....
Low and behold....4 of the 8 ingredients listed caused a myriad of issues from cancer to leukemia and allergies to liver damage.
One of those 8 ingredients listed was water.....
People purchase this detergent because they trust it.
Why do they trust it?
Did this company EARN that trust? Or did this company BUY that trust?
Did you know that many of these companies that suddenly began selling "Natural" products have been sued for false advertising?
Yes, they have, but you didn't know that because you were never exposed to that information.
What you ARE exposed to is big name advertising on TV.
What you ARE exposed to is this being readily available in all of your local grocery stores.
We have to get to a point where we look at companies as a whole. Look at what other products they sell.
If their entire line is full of carcinogens, minus this one little subset over here..... THEY MIGHT NOT BE TRULY NATURAL PRODUCTS!
I'm not yelling. I'm speaking from a place of frustration.
I don't want to live in a world where we have to scrutinize each and every ingredient in each and every product that we buy. I really do NOT!
I can't fathom how many countless hours I have spent in the grocery store, scanning ingredient lists, racking my brain, trying to remember what every single -ate, -trin, and -ide ingredient ACTUALLY is. Was that a salt? A preservative? A carcinogen? Good Grief!
I just want normal ingredients that aren't going to kill me slowly!!!
Is that too much to ask?!
I have literally been so frustrated that I walked out of the store with barely anything at all, as the gravity of how much toxicity there is weighed heavy on my shoulders.
I am not calling for a world of more bureaucracy. Lord knows we don't need more overlords telling us what is what.
What we DO need is a populace that wakes up and scrutinizes all of these companies properly.
Stop reading just the front label. Don't be distracted by the big colorful words that tell you things that make you feel good. Turn it over, get out that magnifying glass, and look up each ingredient. It seems tedious, but these days we have the internet in the palm of our hands. You're on there anyways. Put it to good use and look up things like "Side effects of...." sodium laureth sulfate, tetrasodium iminodisuccinate, benzisothiazolinone, and C12-15 alcohols ethoxylated.
I know that you don't have this time in a grocery store setting, but you can take the time when you are at home.
All of this poisoning in our world doesn't end with the stroke of a bureaucrat's pen.
It ends when you and I stop feeding the monster our hard earned money.
